I purchased a Waykar 155 pint commercial dehumidifier after reading positive reviews online. Here are the details of my experience with this unit:
1. It is powerful and the range of humidity control is excellent. I did a test and set up a drying rack with wet clothes in the room. Within an hour the shirts were completely dry and heavier items (jeans and towels) within a couple of hours.
2. Unlike other dehumidifiers I’ve owned, this unit does not have a removable water reservoir. Water either goes directly out of the dehumidifier by hose (bypassing the internal reservoir), or it is directed into an internal reservoir and pumps out automatically when the reservoir is full. I tried both features and prefer the internal reservoir/pump option. It allows me to use a large bucket to collect water without the constraint of other types of units with a removable reservoir that would need to be emptied more often.
3. I initially had an issue with determining how to configure the hoses for the two different options for water outlet (from #2 above) but Waykar customer service is excellent. They sent me a video showing what to do -- it involved redirecting a hose inside the unit, which did not require any exceptional handy-person skills.
4. Seeing the amount of water that is being collected in the bucket is ironically satisfying. It tells me (a) that this dehumidifier is incredibly effective and (b) my house really needed this. Initially the dehumidifier was extracting more than a large bucket of water a day.
5. I’m including 2 photos showing water collection. The white bucket is taller than the hose outlet and the thin hose to the left is pumping water out of the internal reservoir. For the direct outlet (larger hose coming out of the right side) I used a smaller/shorter bucket because I believe this is relying on gravity to expel water from the unit.
I hope this is helpful to someone considering this dehumidifier. I am very happy with my purchase of this commercial unit.
reliable brand
Judging by the amount of water this is constantly collecting, this dehumidifier works great. Quiet, efficient, and you can feel the difference after it runs.
We got our original Waykar 4 years ago and loved it. It recently had a humidity sensor go out and we opted to upgrade. Went from 33 pints (2000 square ft) to this one which is rated at 80 pints/day (5000 square ft). Amazingly the unit is basically the same size. Very quiet machine and does a great job of removing humidity. There are tons of complaints online about other brands breaking or not working well. Waykar seems to run below the radar. They don't show up in a lot of the "best" lists, but don't be fooled. They're a great brand and just quietly outperform the others without a lot of fanfare. Just quality machines and exceptional customer support. Do yourself a favor and consider them even if they're not on the "influencers'" lists. You'll be happily surprised.
So I bought this dehumidifier to keep two small rooms in my basement dry. It does the job nicely. I have had many dehumidifiers and this is probably the quietest one I've owned. A nice bonus. I also like the front panel humidity display. It doesn't pull the water as fast as some of the bigger units, so I'm not sure it will be effective for the claimed 4500 sq ft. I also used the constant drain hose that was easy to install.
The bad is that it stopped working after exactly one year. It electronically turned on, but the compressor did not kick in. I contacted the company via e-mail and they were pretty easy to deal with and I'll get a replacement. So no complaint there.
